Located in the vibrant city of Quezon City, La Mesa Ecopark serves as proof of environmental stewardship and urban recreation. Spanning over 33 hectares, this expansive green space is part of the La Mesa Watershed, a crucial natural resource for Metro Manila, providing vital ecosystem services and serving as a refuge for biodiversity in an increasingly urban landscape. To ensure a sustainable water supply and to protect its ecological balance, it was designated as a protected area by the government.
In 1999, parts of the area was transformed into La Mesa Ecopark, with the mission of promoting environmental awareness and combining it with public enjoyment.
Originally handled by the ABS-CBN Foundation, it was recently handed over to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System in 2024 to ensure protection and rehabilitation of the area.
La Mesa Ecopark, accessible from Fairview Park Subdivision, requires visitors to register prior to entry due to a capacity limit of 1,000 people. This helps maintain the park’s natural environment and ensures a pleasant experience for all guests.
Situated along the natural boundary of the La Mesa Watershed reservation, the park originally underwent renovations in 1999. This initiative was a collaborative effort between ABS-CBN’s Bantay Kalikasan, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the Quezon City local government. Following this extensive improvements, it reopened to the public in 2004 as “La Mesa Ecopark.”
La Mesa Ecopark has a set of rules and regulations that must be followed if people are visiting. Some of the rules are as follows:
The ecopark features at least 220 species. Native trees are found such as Narra, Kamagong, Ipil, and Molave. There are also several species of birds found within the area such as the Philippine Eagle Owl, Ashy Trush, and Philippine Hanging Parrot.
La Mesa Ecopark boasts a range of activities, from nature walks and bird watching to rappelling, wall climbing and paintball. Additionally, it provides options for team building exercises and allows pre-nupital photoshoots. Visitors can enjoy facilities like a picnic area, an eco-museum and the Eco-Academy Hall, which are available for rental.
MWSS recently took over management of the park and launched rehabilitation efforts in February 2024, focusing on conservation and sustainability. Alongside renovations, MWSS implemented eco-friendly measures and nature preservation initiatives, enhancing the park’s biodiversity. Following successful restoration, the park reopened to the public in July 2024, offering a renewed green space for recreation and environmental apprecation.
