Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetlands is the first critical habitat established in the country though the President Proclamation 1412 issued on April 22, 2007. It is also known as Ramsar Site No. 2124 (a wetland site of international importance under the Ramsar convention) located in Metro Manila.
Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetlands is located at the southwest region of Metro Manila, beside the CAVITEX expressway. The nearest entrance to the LPPWP is via a road near the PITX Bus Station. To enter, visitors must secure a permit from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – NCR.
Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetlands Park has a set of rules and regulations that must be followed if people are visiting.
Some of the rules are as follows:
Home to numerous bird species, LPPWP is a prime spot for birdwatching enthusiasts. Migratory birds, such as the black-crowned night heron and the eurasian wigeon, flock to the area, especially during the migratory season from August to April.
Visitors can enjoy a range of activities within the park, including birdwatching, nature walks, and photography. However, visitors must secure a permit to be able to visit.
The park is managed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), which is dedicated to preserving its ecological integrity. An example is the Bambusetum (seen below), which houses several species of bamboo trees like the pink and yellow bamboo.
